Aconite Starts 2016 As A Growth Pipeline
Aconite Productions is proud to be entering 2016 with some wonderful news…
The year has started with a rather positive bang!
Scottish Enterprise (SE) has agreed to recognise Aconite as a Growth Pipeline company – that’s a business with high-growth potential. This makes us eligible to access proper investment support from SE. We are currently assessing the needs of the company with our local business adviser and aim to have new staff; better premises and screening facilities later this current year.
It’s encouraging for us to see that through our ambition and hard work, the company is gaining the recognition it deserves.
And here is an update on our projects:
Our flagship project AQUARELA is entering into production this spring. Our incredibly committed team has been working hard to get this project off the ground. We are very proud to be working with such a group of dedicated professionals and want to give special thanks our co-production partners without whom we would have never reached this far: ma.ja.de (Germany); Louverture Films (USA) & Danish Documentary Productions(Denmark). We have a significant deal with a major partner in Los Angeles – full details to be announced soon. In this film, acclaimed director Victor Kossakovsky takes us on an epic journey around the world, the heart of which is the vital and majestic element:- ‘Water’. Thanks to Creative Scotland; British Film Institute; Danish Film Institute; Sundance Film Institute; Tribeca Film Institute; Mitteldeutsche Medienförderung; Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg ; RBB TV as well as to our private investors:- Cactus World Films and our incognito investor in the UK.
BRASILIA: LIFE AFTER DESIGN
Our co-production with our Canadian partners Lowik Media will be completed in February. Directed by admired filmmaker Bart Simpson (The Corporation; Big Boys Gone Bananas), produced by Lucie Tremblay of Lowik Media (Canada) and co-produced by our own Aimara Reques , BLAD will be released in spring this year.
Bart Simpson and his crew were in Brasilia early in January to complete the filming but are now back in Scotland to continue with the editing. We are grateful for the participation of award winning editor Colin Monie. Here in Scotland, this project is being supported by Creative Scotland. The world premier of the film will be announced soon and in Scotland we are in the process of linking the film to appropriate events such as the Festival of Architecture 2016.
ELECTRIC MALADY
Directed by talented Marie Liden, it is a documentary film and combined interactive experience that explores what it means to suffer from the controversial illness Electrosensitivity. Marie was in Sweden during the Christmas period working on the development of her story. She is currently busy doing more research into this controversial subject. Some experts consider it to be the major health hazard of the 21st century. This is a co-production with Lowik Media in Canada and we’ll shortly announce our co-production partner in Sweden, as well as other international partners. The interactive platform is being developed by Up Creatives and Unit 9 in London. In 2015 the film pitched at Dok:Leipzig, where it received fantastic support and feedback. Our thanks again go to Creative Scotland for supporting the development of this project.
THE BOY FROM GEORGIA
This is a poignant story that reveals the human capacity to fight against all the odds. Following the extraordinary journey of David Wallace Hird (formally known as Dato). When we first met David, he had been rescued from the streets of Georgia by a caring community called TEMI, located in a town situated in the foothills of the Caucasian mountains. Lucky to be alive, he is constantly pushing the boundaries of what is possible and he is becoming a strong, determined and talented young man. He recently celebrated his 15th birthday with his newly adopted Scottish family. This film shows his inspiring transformation.
Thanks to the support of the Scottish Documentary Institute, we have entered the post-production phase of this project. Thanks also to Creative Scotland and CH4 for supporting the development of this project.
As Aconite goes from strength to strength, we know 2016 will be a year full of positivity and abundance, so please join us along the way! With so much happening at Aconite this year, please keep up-to-date with all our forthcoming news via the website and on our social media pages.
